“Larson gives out anti-war talk,” says Hutchinson, “but every time an appropriations bill comes up to fund the war, he votes for it. … He’s helping to keep these wars going.”

Socialist Action Petitions to get U.S. House Candidate on Connecticut Ballot
June 5th, 2010
Socialist Action has nominated a candidate for U.S. House in Connecticut’s First District, and is petitioning to place him on the ballot. He is Christopher Hutchinson. He needs almost 3,000 valid signatures by August 4.
If he gets on the ballot, he will be the first Connecticut congressional candidate of a party that holds itself out as advocating socialism, since the Communist Party had a candidate on the Connecticut ballot for U.S. House in 1982.
Socialist Action was formed decades ago by people who had been members of the Socialist Workers Party, but who left that party. It has never run a presidential candidate of its own, and it has almost never had any candidates for any partisan office. It is headquartered in San Francisco.
Arizona Law Attacked, Ruling Praised At Demo
“Beforehand, several other speakers addressed the crowd, including Chris Hutchinson, who is running for U.S. Congress in Connecticut’s First District as the Socialist Action Party candidate, and Naveen Jagan of the International Socialist Organization. “There’s still a lot to be fought for with SV 1070, stopping the deportations,” said Jagan. “There have been more deportations under Obama than there have been under Bush.”

Socialist may be on ballot against Larson
By Journal Inquirer Staff
A Socialist party candidate says he has gathered enough signatures to petition for a congressional bid and a spot on the November ballot challenging perennial favorite, U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1st District.
Hartford resident Chris Hutchinson said this week that he submitted more than 5,744 signatures — double the number required by the state to qualify for ballot status — collected by volunteers before the Aug. 4 deadline.
Officials in the secretary of the state’s office said Thursday they haven’t yet received the petition, and that the signatures likely are filed with the town clerk’s office and in the process of being verified.
It could be September before confirmation is completed and a determination on Hutchinson’s candidacy is made, they said.
It’s a rare occurrence to have a Socialist party candidate appear on a November ballot.
A 27-year-old antiwar activist, Hutchinson’s platform calls for jobs for all, money for human needs instead of warfare, and the conversion of the economy toward sustainable renewable energy.
